The problem

Subscribers who go quiet

New subscribers received nothing until the next broadcast — so they forgot who the brand was, and every send started from zero trust.

The first few emails decide whether a subscriber becomes a customer or a muncher of the unsubscribe button.

The flow

Five emails, one relationship

I designed a welcome sequence that promises, proves and invites — each email with a single job — plus a cart-recovery flow for the people who almost bought.

Every email has one ask, one offer and zero noise.

Process

Building the sequence

  • Define the promise

One clear reason to stay subscribed — the specific value this brand can deliver in the inbox.

  • Map the journey

Five emails with distinct jobs: welcome, value, story, proof, invitation.

  • Write like a human

Short subject lines, plain language, one idea per email — no marketing fluff.

  • Set the triggers

Automation logic: subscribed → sequence starts; cart abandoned → recovery with a useful nudge.

  • Segment by behaviour

Openers and clickers get more; the quiet ones get a reset — never the same email to everyone.
